Chart Wrap: Guess who’s back?

With a big week of adds a few weeks ago, the last seven days saw a big shake up in the top 10, just before the wind down at Christmas. Let’s start with Nathaniel, again at #1 this week with his single You. I think it’s fair to say that nobody saw this one coming, we certainly didn’t. It’s a great achievement for an Australian artist to make it to #1, Nathaniel being the first this year, but to be able to hold it for two weeks amongst big names like Eminem, Miley Cyrus, Avicii and Katy Perry is really special. A tip of the hat to Sony.Speaking of Avicii, he’s risen to #2 with the third single from True, Hey Brother. It’s another country-dance crossover and it’s a killer on the dance floor. Katy Perry’s Roar is down to #3 and Justice Crew’s Everybody is up from #7 to #4, and Jessica Mauboy is down to #5.

Pitbull and Ke$ha are up to #6 with Timber;the single faltered a few weeks back with a steep drop in the charts, it’s been climbing steadily since then. If only some forward-thinking promoters would bring them out on a double-headlined tour. Hmm. Eminem’s new single with Rihanna is up to #8 after debuting at #17 last week. The Monster (#2 Billboard Hot 100, #4 UK Singles, #3 iTunes UK. #1 iTunes Aus and Shazam’s Top Tagged song in Aus) is the third single from The Marshall Mathers LPII, which is currently #1 in the US, #2 in the UK, #1 in iTunes UK and #1 in Australia. The crazy success of this track and album have us projecting it to crack into the #1 spot within the next few weeks – keep an eye out.

Something I Need by One Republic is up again to #14 from #20 last week, strangely after a few weeks on a downer there appears to be some renewed interest in this one: it’s been in our chart for 11 weeks. It sits just behind Wrecking Ball, which has experienced a sharp drop from #5 last week to #13. Lupe Fiasco and Ed Sheeran’s new track Old School Love has enjoyed some movement this week, cracking the Top 20 to sit at #19, from #27 last week. They sit one place behind X Factor’s runner-up Taylor Henderson’s debut position of #18. Henderson has enjoyed two weeks of good adds and some high rotation to secure that position. He sits three places above the show’s winner Dami Im, at #21 with Alive. Henderson has seen almost the same movement as Eminem and Rihanna’s track The Monster, which debuted at #17 last week after two big weeks. It looks as if we’ll see him break the top 10 next week.

Havana Brown’s Warrior has jumped up 22 places from last week. This sees it sitting at #39 in its 4thweek in the chart. A little further down at #44 we see The Vamps debut with their new single Can We Dance. The Brits seem to love their boy bands and apparently we do too. This track has been getting some serious traction in the last few weeks; it’ll be interesting to see where it goes from here. At #46 Bonnie Anderson’s Raise The Bar joins the Hot 100. The debut single from the young Australian is already causing a bit of a stir, being the third most added track to radio last week.

Finally the last new addition in the top 50 this week was our Heatseeker and Most Added track to radio, Rude by new Californian pop-reggae outfit, MAGIC!. Sure to be a big track in the next few weeks.

ARIA Singles

Guess who’s back? Back on top of both ARIA charts? It’s Eminem, who scores his second #1 duet with Rihanna, as TheMonster bumps last week’s #1: Taylor’s Henderson’s Borrow My Heart, down to #3, as Katy Perry’s Roar climbs back to #2. Avicii’s Hey Brother is back up at #4, and Pitbull and Ke$ha also climb, from #8 to #5 with Timber.

Elsewhere Justice Crew’s Everybody hits a peak of #6, while Havana Brown’s Warrior peaks at #14, selling Gold.

Australia’s Got Talent winners Uncle Jed have three singles within the top 50 this week, with covers of Matt Corby’s Brother, Ed Sheeran’s Give Me Love, and Pink’s Just Give Me A Reason sitting at #36, #42 and #49 respectively. Seems covering recent radio favourites is working a treat forthem. And speaking of Sheeran, he enjoys the highest new entry this week, with I See Fire, his closing theme for the new Hobbit film, debuting at #10.

ARIA Albums

Eminem’s latest has debuted at #1, holding Lady Gaga’s Artpop from scoring a first-week pole position placing, with poor Stefani having to be okay with second place. We daresay this album will score a #1 closer to the Xmas sales rush – her first record took four months to reach the top, after all. This pushes Katy Perry’s Prism down to #3, with Australian rapper Illy debuting at #4 with Cinematic, his fourth record, and first entry into the Top 10.

Neil Finn and Paul Kelly’s live record Goin’ Your Way debuts at #5, while Lorde’s Pure Heroine drops to #6 – hardly a concern for her as she still sits at #1 in the US with Royals.

The repackaging of Flume’s debut record has seen it fly up 55 places to sit at #7. This record should sit in the Top 20 for the rest of the year, especially considering his predicted ARIA Awards fortunes. Also flying back up the chart is Troy Cassar-Daley and Adam Harvey’s The Great Country Songbook album, to #37, climbing 64 places – no doubt due to Cassar-Daley’s Golden Guitar nods.
