Chart Wrap: October 8, 2013

HOT 100 Katy Perry remains atop our chart this week withRoarfor the fourth week. Perry’s forthcoming albumPrism, out October 18, is set to have a huge impact on our charts, with singles already topping our Most Added to Radio charts before they’ve been officially serviced. Perry’s follow up toRoar, entitledDark Horse, is also in this week at #36 and is the most tagged song in Australia according to Shazam. One Republic’sCounting Starshas shifted up 2 spots to #2 this week in their 15th week in the charts – now equal with its position in the UK airplay chart. The Colorado Rockers had the pleasure of two tracks in the top 10 last week, and have dropped down to #11 this track withSomething I Need. Miley Cyrus has broken into the top 10 this week at #7 withWrecking Ball. The new queen of controversy has stirred more trouble over the weekend as her beef with Sinead O’Connor has escalated, with legal action threatened by O’Connor after Cyrus’ bullying – it’s also provoked responses from the likes of Annie Lennox and Amanda Palmer but I digress. Cyrus shows no signs of slowing down though, as last week’s photo shoot with Terry Richardson and Saturday night’s hosting ofSNL(in which she declares Hannah Montana dead) in the States proves Miley’s business model: as 50 Cent so eloquently put it inIn Da Club, “If people hate, then let ‘em hate and watch the money pile up.” Miley is also on top of the iTunes UK singles and album chart withWrecking BallandBangerz, plus #3 in ARIA singles and #3 in the Billboard Hot 100 – dethroned this week by Lorde’sRoyals. Speaking of Lorde, she hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week withRoyals… I’ll just let that sink in for a second. The young Kiwi is enjoying an epic rise as she now sits ahead of the likes of Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears, Avicii, Lady Gaga etc. Her album also dropped last week in Australia and currently sits atop of the iTunes album chart and ARIA album chart, and is forecast to hit #2 in the US when it drops there this week.Royalsis currently the most tagged tune in the US andTeamis currently #4 in Australia, according to Shazam. She’s currently got 3 tracks in our Hot 100:Teamat #21,Royalsat #23 andTennis Courtat #57. All without any nudity or controversy, well played Southern Hemisphere. Vance Joy is up 2 spots to #6 withRiptide. In its 16th week in the charts, the catchy single has racked up almost 2 million plays on YouTube, and is #24 in Shazam’s Top Tags. Drake has finally cracked the top 10 at #9 in its 4th chart week.Hold On, We’re Going Homejust keeps gathering steam both here and abroad, with his albumNothing Was The Sametopping the Billboard 200 in its debut week and sitting at #5 in Music Week’s albums chart. Currently the 3rd most tagged song in Australia and the US,Hold On, We’re Going Homeshows no signs of slowing down, as predicted in our Breakers column a few weeks back: #13 in UK airplay, #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #9 ARIA singles. The full impact internationally is yet to be felt. Redfoo’sLet’s Get Ridiculoushas made moves back up the chart; after falling a little behind last week, he’s up 10 spots to #13. While he sits just outside our top 10 and is #4 on the ARIA singles chart, funnily enough (maybe a sign of change in the world of music), the track is almost non-existent anywhere else in the world. Well done to the rest of the world. Jessica Mauboy’sPop A Bottleis also up 13 places to #4 following a whole lot more airplay and additions last week. Great news for the young Australian in her third chart week. Rhianna is up 5 places withWhat Now. Her new singlePour It Upsported a new film clip this week and has racked up more than 32 million plays on Vevo in the last 4 days. The video features her and some exotic dancers twerking on stripper poles and knee deep water. Capital CitiesSafe And Soundhas made a huge jump from #66 to #28 over the week and has also jumped to #16 in the ARIA Singles chart, no doubt due to the performance they gave a few weeks ago on AustralianX-Factor.Other fast movers include Zedd’sStay The Nightup from #79 to #29,You’re Nobody Till Somebody Loves Youby James Arthur up to #31 from #63, and Pink’sWalk Of Shame, which moved from #74 to #43. ARIA Singles Katy Perry’sRoarsits on the throne of the ARIA Charts for another week, equallingI Kissed A Girlas Perry’s longest running #1. Jessica Mauboy has debuted at #2 withPop A Bottle. The second single from her newly released albumBeautifulfollows the success ofTo The End Of The Earthback in August. X-Factorcontestants had a few notable debuts this week, firstly from Dami Im’s cover of the Simon and Garfunkel classicBridge Over Troubled Waterat #15. It’s her 4th top 50 entry and her highest peak to date. Also debuting this week is Taylor Henderson’s cover ofThe Horsesby Ricki-Lee Jones, made famous by Daryl Braithwaite in 1991. It came in at #27 and is his first top 50 appearance. Jason Derulo’sMarry Mehas debuted at #28, the third single from his new albumTattoos, followingThe Other SideandTalk Dirty. ARIA Albums This week’s ARIA Album Chart features, for the first time in 30 years, a Top 5 full of debuts – headed this week by Lorde’sPure Heroine, which includes singlesRoyals, Tennis CourtandTeam.Lorde is the first female Kiwi solo artist to top the ARIA Albums Chart.Haim’s highly anticipated debut albumDays Are Gonehas debuted at #2 and is #1 in the Music Week albums chart in the UK.
