Former Editor

Chet Faker has dominated the 2014 ARIA nominations ceremony. Held at Sydney’s Art Gallery of NSW, the Future Classic signing received nine nods for Album Of The Year (for his ARIA #1 LP Built On Glass), Best Male Artist, Breakthrough Artist, Best Independent Release, the publicly voted award Best Video for Talk Is Cheap directed by Toby & Pete, Best Dance Release for his collaborative track Drop The Game with label mate Flume. Faker aka Nicholas Murphy’s debut LP took home all three Artisan awards, for 2014 ARIA Producer Of The Year, Engineer Of The Year for Eric J Dubowsky and Best Cover Art designed by Tin & Ed.

This year also marks the second time Sydney-based independent label Future Classic had lead ARIA nominations. 2013 was the year of Flume; Harley Streten was nominated for eight ARIA Awards and won four.

Brisbane’s Sheppard came in second with received seven nominations across the 18 categories; they scored nods in the Album Of The Year, Best Independent Release, Best Pop Release (all for Bombs Away), Best Group, the publicly voted Song Of The Year (for ARIA #1 and now 4x Platinum single Geronimo) and Best Video (directed by Toby Morris), and Producer Of The Year for the group’s Stuart Stuart.

Adelaide native, US-based artist Sia followed closely behind with six nominations, Dan Sultan with five, Billboard and ARIA chart toppers 5 Seconds of Summer and Iggy Azalea with four and I Oh You signing Violent Soho also with four.
