Gig Of The Week: Boy and Bear

May 25
The Corner Hotel, Richmond, VIC

Two of Australia’s best up and coming bands, Boy and Bear and Jinja Safari, are hitting the road this week to play a string of shows that are sure to get you dancing! The two bands have been blasted on Triple J radio for the last year and are known for their eclectic take on songwriting, which sees both bands start in the folk-realm while touching upon tribal rhythms, sweet harmonies and Graceland-esque- world music.

Boy and Bear drop their debut album this August, and after a 2010 that saw them win over audiences nationally with their debut EP (With Emperor Antartica) and live, harmony-drenched performances, this album will see them fare even better in 2011.

In last week issue of TMN, Triple J’s Nick Findlay sang the praises of their latest single Feeding Line, claiming the song “gives Boy and Bear’s sound a new found sophistication and energy.” The driving rhythms and massive harmonies do point towards a fuller sound for album #2, the songs from which will be given an airing on this national tour.
