Heatseeker: Kilter

Kilter is a name many of us may not yet be familiar with, but trust me when I say you will be soon. He’s fast building a reputation for himself, both here and internationally, as a producer and as one of the poster boys for the ‘Australian Sound’, think Flume, Ta-Ku, L D R U, Chet Faker, Touch Sensitive and many more.

Over the last six-to-eight months, Kilter has exploded onto the club scene, with regular gigs at some of the biggest venues and parties in N.S.W. and interstate, as well as scoring support slots for the Klaxons, Shapeshifter, MØ, and local hero Sampology. Not only that, but he’s just recently played the Fat As Butter festival in Newcastle and is on the bill of the NSW leg of Stereosonic, the country’s biggest music festival.

It wasn’t until recently though that his production got some big time attention. He was signed to young label and management company EtcEtc, they are distributed through Ministry Of Sound, who linked him up with his first major remixes. Earlier this year, Kilter remixed UK deep house legend Ben Pearce’s smash track of late last year What I Might Do. The track immediately rose to popularity in the underground dance community: racking up a quarter of a million plays, time at #1 on the Hype Machine, and eventually some play on BBC’s Radio 1.

The single was only recently serviced to Australian radio, we reviewed it here, it was delightful. A few weeks later, we received his first original with UK vocalist Youth. The Track ,entitled Hold Me, is laced with warm vibes, and literally smells like rich mahogany. It’s reviewed here. It’s all class.

All of the above gives us the impression this guy is about to break, and given the tremendous rise to fame we saw with Flume, and Kilter being hailed as the next Flume, when it does happen, it’ll happen quickly. Keep an eye out, and commercial radio, try not to be too late to the party.
