TMN talks to SnowFM's Program Director and Breakfast announcer and Eagle FM's Music Director about recent promotions, Taio Cruz and... STDs?
What are you loving about your station this week?
We’re currently bribing our listeners to join us on Facebook with prizes, calling the promo “Friends With Real Benefits”. We’ve also spoken to Guy Sebastian ahead of his show in Canberra, as well as giving away tickets to the show. Plus ski season has kicked off so we’re busy with snow reports and road updates.
Who’s been the best guest you’ve had on the station and why?
Sam from Kids Of 88 likened the band’s sound to getting an STD, “it feels good at the time, but there’s a bit of burn afterwards.” That was the funniest quote I’ve ever heard from one of our guests. Reigan Derry (Scarlett Belle) was also a great interview, pointing out local landmarks from her ski trip last year!
Which track have you personally championed and helped break it?
I was straight onto Taio Cruz's Break Your Heart as soon as it was serviced, flogging it left, right and centre. It was a good month before everyone else got on board and now it’s going great guns.
Why do you work in radio?
I love music, but don’t have any actually ability to play or sing, so I play other people’s, talk about it and promote the really good tracks.
How did you get your start in radio?
I had an interest in media from a young age and fell in love with radio after moving to Brisbane in 1998. Eventually I went to uni to study journalism and started a countdown show on community radio. After graduating I spent a year in music retail before getting my first gig in Lismore.
If you weren’t in radio, what would you be doing?
Probably working in a music store trying to sell the music. There was nothing better than a customer singing a line from something they’d heard on the radio and then being able to sell it to them.
