TMN talks to the Network Music Director/DJ for RadioWest and Hot FM Networks about cherrypicker stunts, her "filthy and funny" colleagues and not recording her Perry Farrell interview.
What are you loving about your station this week?
This week we had our breakfast announcers stuck in a cherry picker 40 feet in the air for an entire day to raise money for the Give Me Five for Kids regional assistance fund. At the end of it they raised well over $115,000 WA wide! It was a huge effort, but the best part - not having them around the station for an entire day – no offence guys!
Why do you work in radio?
The people!!! (Don’t worry, I’m not about to name any names... you’re all safe!) We’re dysfunctional, crazy and just down right filthy and funny! I love the ‘work hard and play harder’ motto in radio! Radio has been the most challenging but rewarding industry I’ve ever worked in and it’s also an exciting time to be involved, with all the changing technology in media we’re experiencing now and will experience in the years to come.
Who’s been the best guest you’ve had on the station and why?
More like the best guest we didn’t have on the station! I had the opportunity of a lifetime to interview Perry Farrell from Janes Addiction at Soundwave - I’m talking one of the biggest radio interviews in my career here! Only to get back to the station and realise the Mini Disc didn’t record!!? Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....I’m still spewing!
Which track have you personally championed and helped break?
I’ve always been massive fan of supporting local WA bands whenever we can! More recently we’ve been all over Gyroscope’s new stuff including their latest track Baby I’m Getting Better – this is one we’ve been on since day one. It’s so awesome to see it make the ARIA Top 50 singles charts... rock on guys!!
If you weren’t in radio, what would you be doing?
Definitely, no doubt about it, something media related! I’ve always thought it would be cool to be a festival promoter, tour manager or even record label talent scout.
