With her sophomore album Teenage Dream out in a month (August 27 via EMI), pin-up popstar Katy Perry is quickly becoming a postergirl for successful online marketing – and boy, does she know how to work the internet.
In addition to unveiling her cover art in a Facebook countdown last week, the Californian popstar and social media junkie has started leaking preview pics for the title track's new video.
Last weekend, in a clever do-it-before-the-fans-do-it manoeuvre, she unveiled a Youtube video with Teenage Dream’s lyrics over stills from the video shoot. The official video clip is out August 9.
On Monday, she appeared in an online interview answering questions from the Youtube community (over 20,500 questions were submitted) and now she’s released a series of new promo shots (above) to keep blogs buzzing.
The constant online onslaught is paying huge dividends - her first single California Gurls has been #1 on TMN's Hot 100 Airplay charts for six weeks in a row.
Meanwhile, her candy-coated Gurls clip has become the quintessential viral video with home-made parodies continuing to appear online. Now there’s California Boys, Geeks and Gays plus Texas Gurls and Milwaukee Boys and Comic Con Gurls – watch the best ones below.
