Hilltop Hoods and zombies... an artist's impression
28 July 2010
They have their own label and their line of trainers. Now Hilltop Hoods are working on the ultimate in band merch – a zombie movie. In some of the more bizarre news TMN's heard lately, the chart-topping trio wrote and star in the indie film, Parade of the Dead, which bandmate MC Pressure described to TMN as a “zombie flick" which might become a "music video”.
The film is based on a track of the same name from the Hilltop Hoods’ blockbuster 2009 album release State of the Art and was largely filmed in their hometown, Adelaide.
The old Adelaide Gaol will feature as a key location in Parade of the Dead, which is tentatively set for a release this October to coincide with Halloween.
Pressure and bandmates MC Suffa and DJ Debris took time out of their European summer tour (supporting D12) last week to visit Sydney and pick up their ARIA #1 Chart Award in recognition of the exceptional sales effort of State of the Art.
The album finished 2009 as the year’s best-selling homegrown record and earned the rare distinction of owning the top spot on the chart for two weeks, becoming the first Australian album to achieve the feat since Silverchair’s Young Modern did it in 2007.
Work has begun on a follow-up, but don’t expect it to arrive until 2012.
“We’re going to take our time making the next record,” notes MC Pressure. “Suffa has produced and written some stuff, and I’ve done some writing. But we’re not going to rush it. When it’s ready, we’ll put it out.”
