The Wilderness Downtown project comes alive

Arcade Fire visit your childhood home in new video

31 August 2010

Arcade Fire and Google Chrome have released a unique music video experience for the band's new single We Used To Wait, which combines the power of Google mapping, satellite imaging and HTML5 to nolstagic effect.

Under the banner of The Wilderness Downtown, the interactive video - directed by Chris Milk (who's made videos for Green Day, U2, Kanye West) - asks you to enter the address of your childhood home before a video launches of a hooded figure running down the street.

As he runs, more windows pop up – of birds flying over an aerial street view – before he finally stops and pans around in the street you used to live (via Google Streetview).

Users are then asked to leave a message to their younger self, which may be used later for the project or during the band’s multimedia stageshow. The project syncs nicely with the nolstagic themes of the band's latest album The Suburbs, which was released earlier this month and currently sits at #12 on the ARIA Album Charts.
