Kanye West’s proposed cover for his fifth album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy may have been banned in the US by his record company, but that hasn’t stopped the hip hop artist from blasting it out via Twitter today.
“Banned in the USA!!! They don’t want me chilling on the couch with my phoenix!” he tweeted today about the cover illustration that alludes to his recently unveiled short film Runaway, which he premiered in Sydney last Monday (read TMN’s film review).
At this stage, it's unclear who actually banned it (his management, label, Wal Mart?). The rapper later tweeted “In the 70s, album covers had actual nudity… It’s so funny that people forget that… Everything has been so commercialized now” and then, “I know that cover just blew yall minds… I wish y’all could see how hard I’m smiling right now!!! and then "In all honesty ... I really don't be thinking about Wal-Mart when I make my music or album covers."
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is due out November 19.
