Cut Copy tweeting from the set of their video for Take Me Over
19 November 2010
After releasing teaser track Where I’m Going back in July, Melbourne band Cut Copy will premiere their first official single Take Me Over from new album Zonoscope globally this Tuesday (November 23).
TMN got a sneak peek of the track this week and it’s an up-beat blast of ‘80s electro-pop complete with woozy synth, tropical percussion and singer Dan Whitford’s usual pop coos. Sonically, it’s most similar to Cutters' previous track Fade Away off their chart-topping 2008 album, In Ghost Colours.
“Take me over is certainly one of the more pop moments from the album,” guitarist Tim Hoey tells TMN. “It captures us in full band mode and was a result of one of the extended jams we had in the studio which is something we've never really done before. I've never really considered Cut Copy a 'jam' kind of band in the past. We still aren't exactly of Santana standards though.”
Although you might not guess on first listen, Take Me Over also features a choir (well, a soul vocal ensemble to be exact) that the band recorded with in Atlanta with engineer Ben Allen (who co-produced Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavilion.
“We used them on few tracks in reference to Bowie’s Young Americans and early ‘90s acid house records like Primal Scream’s Screamadelica,” says Hoey.
The band are filming the video for Take Me Over today, earlier tweeting: “Just arrived in Sydney for video shoot for our next single with kris moyes. Concept features @cutcopy and breasts. Not a bad kris.”
They later uploaded this photo of them in outback gear from the set. We're intrigued.
Zonoscope is out February 4 through Modular.
