Peacebeliever gain rights to rework John Lennon track

01 December 2010

Australian organisation Peacebeliever will be the first to launch a reworked, remastered version of John Lennon’s Give Peace A Chance for the Australian Children’s Music Foundation (ACMF).

The project launches on iTunes Wednesday next week (December 8), the 30th anniversary of his assassination in New York City in 1980.

Over 20 musicians and 100 Australian children are involved in the project which will be reworked in both English and Spanish. Some of the artists involved include Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club, Supertramp, Katie Noonan, Natalie Pa’A’Pa of Blue King Brown and Tim Freedman of The Whitlams.

Russel Crowe's father in law, Don Spencer, is in charge of the Australian component. Those involved in the project have also added a new verse, something that has never been allowed before due to Lennon’s song policy.

The founder of Peacebeliever, Yolanda Vega, says because of her experiences as a child migrant to Australia from Spain; ACMF is a charity close to her heart and was her first choice to receive all profits.

“I believe that music is very important in the development of any child. Knowing that 75% of children in Australia don’t have access to music during their education not only saddens me, it alarms me.

“At this time of the year, when peace and giving is at the forefront of our minds, I am confident Australians will embrace the song and support the ACMF,” said Vega.
