Brian McFadden has been accused of promoting date rape in his new single Just The Way You are (Drunk at the Bar), but the singer has claimed the song is about his fiance Delta Goodrem.

Web users and online music fans have savaged the single, which contains the lyrics: "I like you just the way you are, drunk in the back seat of my car" and "drunk as s*** dancing at the bar".

McFadden also sings in Just The Way You are (Drunk at the Bar) that he "can't wait" to take the girl home "so I can take advantage" and "do some damage". But the Irish singer has defended the track, telling the UK Metro that the song is about Goodrem.

"For the record I wrote the song about how I love it when Delta has a drink (which is very rare) and she's dancing,” he told Metro.

"I am shocked at these ridiculous accusations about my new song that have been written."

McFadden’s single debuted on Australian radio last Friday (February 25).
