"Sparta awake" says Jim Ward

Jim Ward has announced the band he fronted since 2001 have officially reformed.

According to Ward’s online blog, Sparta will play their first show since 2008 on November 17 in their Texas hometown of El Paso.

The post reads: “Hi everyone- here is the official word from the sparta headquarters- Sparta, awake!”

Ward, along with drummer Tony Hajjar, bassist Matt Miller and guitarist Keeley Davis will perform at co-owned venue Tricky Falls before they set to work on album number four.

Ward will perform three Australian dates this month on August 10, 12 and 13 to promote his debut solo record, Quiet In The Valley, On The Shores The End Begins. The album is a compilation of tracks he wrote whilst on Sparta’s last tour in 2006.

Ward will miss his ex-At The Drive-In bandmates’ Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López by just three days during their tour with rock group The Mars Volta. TMV have been in the country since last week when the played Queensland's Splendour In The Grass festival.
