US rapper Big Boi was arrested yesterday in Miami for three counts of drug possession and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, just over three weeks before his scheduled Australian tour.
According to the Miami-Dade jail website, the OutKast rapper was detained as he was leaving a cruise ship. US customs and border patrol dogs found ecstasy pills, MDMA powder and Viagra (allegedly without a prescription) on him.
A statement released by Big Boi's attorney, Daniel Kane says: "While Big Boi was traveling with his group and friends, a small amount of contraband was found in the collective luggage. I am confident when the entire facts are aired Big Boi will be completely exonerated."
The 36-year-old was held in custody yesterday afternoon and later released on $16,000 bond; this morning he tweeted “Fresh Out Baby !” and later posted “Shiiiiit they said it was the Love Boat.”
The arrest couldn't come at a worse time for Australian fans as drug charges may see the rapper unable to enter the country. However, it may just increase interest and media coverage.
