British singer-songwriter Liam Gallagher announced yesterday that he is suing his older brother and former Oasis bandmate Noel because he is a “liar.”
The brothers are renowned for their public feuds and childish slandering of one another but yesterday 38-year-old Liam issued the High Court libel writ over a comment made by 44-year-old Noel last month.
During a press conference, Noel claimed the reason Oasis pulled a gig at V Festival in 2009 in Essex because Liam was not because he had laryngitis as the official statement had read, but because he was hungover.
British newspaper The Sun published a statement from Liam which read:
"I have taken action against Noel Gallagher's statement,” he said. "That is a lie and I want Oasis fans to know the truth. I was gutted when I couldn't play the gig because I didn't want to let the fans down. The truth is I had laryngitis, diagnosed by a doctor, preventing me performing that night.
“What Noel has alleged this time went beyond rock-and-roll banter and questioned my professionalism. I tried to resolve this amicably but have been left with no choice but legal action. All I want is an apology."
Noel, who now fronts Beady Eye with the former Oasis members will now have to make an official response to the writ.
