Robbie Williams signs deal with Universal

After 15 years at EMI, Robbie Williams has signed a new deal with Universal Music to relaunch his solo career, with a new studio album to be released next year. His ninth studio album, his first since 2009, is currently being recorded at his own studio in Los Angeles, and is expected to be released next spring.

Universal Music Group Chairman/CEO Lucian Grainge says: "What a thrill this announcement is. To be working with Robbie and his team, and to have the opportunity to support this incredible stage of his career, makes life so exciting."

The highest selling British solo artist in the UK has been enjoying a resurgence of late: his reunion with English boy band Take That raking in an estimated 10 million pounds for the showman, and a sold out European tour. Quitting the band for a second time, Robbie Williams is now focusing on his solo career. This marks another setback for EMI, with Paul McCartney and Radiohead also leaving the financially troubled label. Luckily, the new Coldplay record just came out.
