Marilyn Manson, NIN blamed for another crime

Echoing the ridiculous claims that the music of Marilyn Manson had incited the tragic Columbine school massacre in 1999, a 29-year-old El Paso woman has blamed messages in the music of Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails for her decision to burn her father's house down.

Christina Paz broke into her father's house while he was in a nursing home battling an illness and set fire to a mattress, causing serious damage to the property. When quizzed on her motives, she claimed "she was angry at her mom and dad for trying to kill her on Christmas Day, that they had planned to sodomize her and chop her up with the help of a neighbor," according to a court document secured by the El Paso Times.

She was made privy to this information through messages contained in the two artist's records. Neither artist has commented publicly about the claims.

People misinterpreting the meaning of popular music to devastating effect is nothing new. The most famous example of this occurred in 1969, when Charles Manson (who Marilyn Manson copped his moniker from) believed The Beatles self-titled album contained messages which warned of an impeding race war. Manson widely misinterpreted thirteen of the album's thirty tracks which led to the infamous Manson Family murders.

Charles Manson also co-wrote a track with American funsters The Beach Boys, but that's another tale entirely.
