Gotye has taken another stride toward global domination, signing a worldwide music publishing deal with Kobalt Music Publishing Australia, TMN can exclusively reveal.
The new arrangement does not include Australia and New Zealand, where his works are represented through a previously-announced arrangement with Alberts.
News of the international publishing pact arrives in a busy week for Gotye’s border-breaking exploits. His smash single Somebody That I Used To Know (feat. Kimbra) rises 50-31 on The Billboard Hot 100 chart and climbs this week to No. 3 on Official UK Singles Chart. The album it’s lifted from, Making Mirrors, is already a hit in Continental Europe and is certified Platinum in a string of markets.
“We're now fixing our attention on America and U.K. and the rest of Europe," Gotye's co-manager Danny Rogers, managing director of Lunatic Entertainment, recently told this reporter. "It's really connecting in so many markets. The feeling around the UK is really strong. Tickets for a series of shows in February have all sold out. We'll do "Later with Jools Holland, he's been offered the Echo Awards in Germany. In a lot of markets, it's coming along very strong."
Gotye's music is released via his own imprint, Samples'N'Seconds Records, and is licensed through Fairfax/Universal Republic in North America, B1/Vertigo in G.A.S., Hostess in Japan and Island/Universal in the UK and the rest of the world.
Since opening for business in late 2010, Kobalt’s Sydney-based Australian office has inked deals with the likes of Icehouse and Art vs Science, and struck a global publishing administration deal with Future Classic.
