Alter Bridge and their $75 squabble with a photographer

A photographer who has requested a nominal $75 fee for the unauthorised use of a live shot on an official Alter Bridge page has been slammed by the band in what should go down as a monumental public relations nightmare.

The photograph in question was of guitarist Mark Tremonti, which Alter Bridge posted on their Facebook page, after first cutting the photographer's watermark. As the image was used to promote Tremonti's forthcoming solo record (the post in question also included an iTunes link) the photographer contacted the band to request a $75 fee for commercial use - which seems fair enough considering the band do sell hundreds of thousands of records.

The next day the following snarky comment appeared on the band's Facebook page.

"Needless to say, we declined." Ha! The band/management/whoever holds the FB-keys then went on to curate (read:delete) the comments underneath the post to make the photographer look bad. A handful of these comments were screen-capped prior to this deletion, and can be read here.

Now, imagine the reverse scenario, in which an Alter Bridge song was being used without permission to promote, say, a photography studio. You'd better believe a lawsuit would be filed before you could say, "Hey, weren't you the guys from Creed?"

It appears that respect for copyright holders only stretches so far in the Alter Bridge universe.
