Pussy Riot thank Madonna, Green Day in video message

07 September 2012

by Poppy Reid

Members of Pussy Riot have made a video singling out Vladimir Putin and thanking the artists who have supported their fight for freedom of expression.

In the clip, two members of the Russian feminist collective scale a building covered with a Pussy Riot backdrop and light a photograph of the Russian President on fire, while another member stands on the rooftop holding a guitar.

The women thank outwardly supportive acts Madonna, Green Day, Bjork and The Red Hot Chili Peppers and encourage the public to “start the Pussy Riot and never stop!"

Another three members of Pussy Riot are currently awaiting the decision after appealing their two-year sentence. The conviction was handed down to Maria Alyokhina, 24, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, 30 on August 17 after they were charged with "hooliganism driven by religious hatred.”
