Anti-YouTube Prince releases new single on YouTube

28 November 2012

by Nathan Jolly

We have fairly exhaustively documented how ridiculous a human Prince is, and how he makes the rules then breaks them all 'cos he is the best. Well, it seems the notoriously anti-Internet Prince (he hires this guy to constantly tear down his clips from YouTube) woke up this morning and just decided to drop a new single on YouTube.

Prince has pulled his early '80s synth out of his purple storage trunk (which is lined with velvet, we can only assume) and unleashed a blast of immaculately-produced vintage disco that wouldn't sound out of place on his 1999 record. The track is named Rock and Roll Love Affair, opens with a '80s sounding snare crack, and the line "she believed in fairytales and princes" and only gets better from there.

There's no word on whether the single is a stand-alone, a lead track from a forthcoming album, or just Prince simply releasing a track, because he is Prince.

The verses also sound quite reminiscent of the criminally underrated Oh Mercy track Keith St. We really hope Prince owns a copy of Great Barrier Grief. We hope you do, too.
