Radio Ratings Survey 5 wrap-up

10 August 2010

The fifth radio book of ratings for the year was opened today. Check out our market-by-market breakdown for the winners and the losers this time around.

Sydney

On the AM band, 2GB continues its dominance despite a small drop (down 0.4) to 14.3, although Alan Jones saw his breakfast show fall again (down 1.3 points to 15.9). That was picked up by 2UE’s John & Sandy who gained 1.1 points (to 7.0), giving it a 1.2 point boost overall.

2DayFM maintains its clear-cut lead on the FM dial in overall share, despite a slight drop this survey (down 0.3 to 9.4). It picked up some of what it lost last survey in the 10-17 and 18-24 demos, up 2.6 (to 25.5) and 2.0 (to 19.6) respectively but dropped 2.1 (16.3) in the process to 25-39s. Kyle and Jackie O for breakfast rose slightly to 10.5 (up 0.3) while Hamish & Andy held steady out front on 14.7 (down 0.1).

WSFM came in second – just – with 6.6, beating Nova96.9 by 0.1 in overall share, thanks to their strengthened breakfast show Jonesy & Amanda who got a 1.0 point boost.

For its huge, listener-driven Love and Money promo campaign, Nova 96.9 got just a 0.4 bump in overall share, climbing to 6.5. Breakfast show Merrick, Dools & Ricki-Lee sat still at 6.3 while Ryan, Monty & Wippa in drive jumped 0.9 to 7.8.

Sister station Classic Rock’s road to recovery stalled a little, dropping 0.2 overall to 4.3, while Mix106.5 jumped up 0.4 to 5.4 overall.

Triple J stayed steady at 4.6 (down 0.1) overall but suffered a severe drop of 6.6 in its key demo of 18-24s, who fled to 2DayFM (up 2.0) and Triple M (up 1.8).

Melbourne

FOXFM maintained its huge lead on the FM band with 12.5 overall share, although it did drop 0.7, which was mirrored in Matt & Jo’s breakfast slot.

With a 0.6 jump overall to 7.4, Magic leap-frogged Gold by a mere 0.1 after its brekkie show jumped the same (to 7.0) at the expense of Gold’s which fell by 0.7 to 6.2). They both beat Nova100’s 7.0 overall share which rose 0.2 while Hughes & Kate’s brekkie slot remained the same at 7.2.

Talk AM station 3AW increased its overall lead, up 0.3 to 15.4 share points while ABC774 held steady more or less at 12.7. The woes at Melbourne’s newest AM station MTR 1377 continued, dropping 0.3 to a depressing 1.4 share.

Brisbane

After a four-way tug of war last survey, this survey sees B105 break free of the pack and run for it with a decisive 0.8 leap to 13.1 overall. Its brekkie show jumped 0.3, but it made better gains across the day and secured a big leap in 10-17s (up 6.8 to 40.7).

97.3FM held onto second place, despite a little hiccup (down 0.3 to 11.4 overall), while Nova claimed third again, dropping again, but this time by only 0.2 overall. Interestingly, the latter made a huge gain of 6.3 in 18-24s but lost almost as much (5.3) in 10-17s.

Triple M continued to fall, down 0.6 to 10.3 overall, and dropping 0.9 in breakfast to 9.9. Triple J held steady, dropping just 0.1 to 6.0 while ABC612 jumped 1.2 to 10.9 on the AM side.

Adelaide

MIX102.3 held onto its lead in the FM race, despite falling 0.9 to 12.2 in overall share. They beat SAFM, which fell too, down 0.7 to 12.0.

Some of those listeners headed to Triple M (up 0.5 to 9.6) and Nova91.9, which rose 0.4 to 8.3 overall.

On the AM band, DMG AM talk station 5AA continues to lead with 14.0 share, down 0.7 overall and 1.9 in breakfast to 16.4. By contrast, ABC891 jumped in brekkie to 15.8 (up 0.9) and enjoyed a 0.9 jump overall to 12.5.

Perth

The sibling rivalry between sister stations MIX94.5 and 92.9FM continues, with the former out front still (down 0.7 to 15.3) and the latter leaping a promising 1.9 points to 13.5, bolstered by a 1.4 rise in brekkie.

ABC720’s breakfast slot (up 0.9 to 16.3) actually overtook Mix’s (down 0.7 to 15.2), although it dropped 0.2 in overall share to 11.6.

Nova93.7 jumped 9.7 (up 0.6), 96FM dropped again, down 1.0 to 8.9 and Triple J held steady with 7.6 overall.
