Opposition arts spokesman Steven Ciobo

Coalition promise little for music industry

20 August 2010

Opposition arts spokesman Steven Ciobo says the Coalition wants to build a "thriving, innovative, unique and prosperous" arts and cultural sector.

Alas, the party’s promises for tomorrow’s elections (August 21) is aimed squarely at the Australian film industry than it is for the music sector.

After all, Ciobo revealed their arts policy at the Australian International Movie Convention before 900 movers and shakers. It has promised a $60 million loan fund over three years. Distributors who invest in local films will get matching loans of between $2-$10 million. It expects such a loan scheme to increase 18 new films in the three years. Screen Producers Association Australia (SPAA) has acclaimed it “as a major incentive of the industry.”
