Chart wrap-up: Katy Perry back on top of airplay

30 August 2010

by Thomas Gilmore

Katy Perry has reclaimed her position as queen of airplay. Can she hold it for more than one week, breaking the run of one week #1s?

TMN HOT 100 AIRPLAY CHART

Since Katy Perry was last at #1 a month ago with California Gurls, there has been a new TMN Hot 100 Airplay Chart #1 every week. This week Katy has reached the top again, with the follow-up single, Teenage Dream. California Gurls managed to hold onto the top spot for six weeks, so it looks like Teenage Dream will end this brief period of fleeting #1 singles.

Top 40 market share has seen another change this week following EMI taking out the third place above Warner last week. Sony have taken back the lead from UMA by a slim 0.98%. Hot 100 market share remains in the same order as previous weeks.

The Highest Ranking New Addition for the week was Powderfinger’s Iberian Dream, which has debuted in the Top 50 at #45, after dominating in Most Added a week ago. The biggest supporters for Iberian Dream were hometown stations B105 and NOVA Brisbane.

Taylor Swift darted up into an impressive #13 from last week’s #19, in Mine’s second week on the Hot 100; though the most outstanding progress made this week was Duck Sauce’s Barbara Streisand, which cleared 45 positions from #95 to #50 thanks to a NOVA National Add.

ARIA TOP 50 SINGLES CHART

Taio Cruz has stolen the top spot from Eminem and Rihanna's Love The Way You Lie this week, taking out his first #1 ARIA Single. Up from #2 last week, Dynamite has finally taken out #1 in its seventh week on the chart.

The rest of the Top 5 didn't see much movement. Love The Way You Lie slipped into #2, Katy Perry's Teenage Dream and Flo Rida's Club Can't Handle Me Now (ft. David Guetta) remained in #3 and #4, while DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love moved up from #6 into #5 for Usher and Pitbull.

For The First Time debuted at #12 for The Script, easily the highest debut on the ARIA Singles chart this week.

ARIA TOP 50 ALBUMS CHART

Despite Eminem losing his grip on Airplay and the ARIA Singles chart, he continues to hold the #1 position on the Albums chart. How long can he continue to dominate?

Stan Walker has entered at #2 with From The Inside Out - the highest selling Australian album this week and Stan's highest charting album to date. Bliss n Eso are holding onto #3, with Running On Air still charging on four weeks in.

Miami Horror entered the chart at #10 with their debut album, Illumination, just taking the cake above Adam Brand's It's Gonna Be OK at #11. Surfing The Void burst onto the chart at #15 for Klaxons - their previous album Myths Of The Near Future never entered the ARIA Charts.

Following Adam Brand's lead, The Dixie Chicks, Adam Harvey and Tim McGraw all appeared (or reappeared) this week, leading up to the Gympie Muster.
