Chart wrap-up: Adele outdoes LMFAO

27 June 2011

by Thomas Gilmore

Adele dashed LMFAO's hopes of another record breaking week on the ARIA Singles chart; the pop star also held onto the Albums chart #1 while losing the top spot on the TMN Hot 100 Airplay Chart.

TMN HOT 100 AIRPLAY CHART

For the second time, Pitbull’s Give Me Everything featuring Ne-Yo, Afrojack and Nayer has taken the crown from Adele’s Rolling In The Deep. The tracks have been battling it out over the past few weeks, but now with Adele’s Someone Like You (which darted from #20 to #9 this week) claiming spins from Rolling In The Deep, Pitbull is back on top. Rolling In The Deep drops to #2.

One position below, Katy Perry’s Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F) switched places with LMFAO’s Part Rock Anthem, while Marvin Priest held out in #5 with Own This Club. Below, Bruno Mars has entered the TMN Hot 100 Top 20 for the sixth time with his latest, Marry You, up from #34 last week. Pete Murray is charging up the chart with Always A Winner as the Most Progressed track, a week after it entered the chart as the highest ranking new addition. Always A Winner moved from #68 to the Top 40, at #39.

New additions to the TMN Hot 100 this week include Lupe Fiasco’s Out Of My Head at #89 and UK Chart dominator, Example with his UK #1, Changed The Way You Kissed Me. This is the second time Example has made it into the Hot 100. Previously, Won’t Go Quietly peaked at #64; can Changed The Way You Kiss Me take it further?

ARIA TOP 50 SINGLES CHART

Adele's domination of the ARIA charts ruled out all hopes of another record breaking week for LMFAO's Party Rock Anthem. Adele's Someone Like You overtook Party Rock Anthem, leaving LMFAO to the #2 position. We'd hope the shuffle-loving dance gurus don't feel too hard done by, sitting pretty with a five times Platinum single and 17 weeks on the chart. Not to mention their latest single Champagne Showers entering the chart this week at #26 – the highest new addition to the chart.

Below the squabble for the top spot is the TMN Hot 100 Airplay Chart topper for the week, Pitbull's Give Me Everything. This week Pitbull took it up another notch from double to triple Platinum with this single, even though the single fell from #2 to #3. One rung lower, is Adele's Rolling In The Deep and rounding out the Top 5 is Katy Perry's This Friday Night (T.G.I.F), which crept up from #6 to #5 this week.

There was some fantastic movement on the chart this week. Christina Perri's Jar Of Hearts jumped from #12 to #6, while Bruno Mars broke into the Top 20, hitting #13 from #25 with Marry You, mirroring his airplay action this week.

ARIA TOP 50 ALBUMS CHART

Adele's double Platinum album, 21, has held onto the #1 position this week, which is no surprise. It looks great for Inertia seeing the two ARIA #1s have their name next to it.

The highest album debut for the week was Bon Iver's Bon Iver, which entered at #2 for Inertia (#1 and #2 on the Albums chart for Inertia this week!), above Eminem's Bad Meet's Evil project with Royce da 5'9." Even Planet Pit, Pitbull's album, which entered at #5. Hell, Adele's 19 is still in the Top 10 as well, holding on at #9! Keep it up Inertia.

The highest Australia debut came from The Grates, which just missed out on a Top 10 debut, entering at a healthy and respectable #11 with Secret Rituals. They outdid Canadian pop-rockers, Simple Plan, who entered at #13 with Get Your Heart On. TMN and ARIA chart dominator, Wynter Gordon's With The Music I Die entered at #23.
