What the Adele is going on here? She's still sticking it out at #1 on all three charts. Although, three Australian acts are doing their worst to spoil her runs on all three charts.
Watch out Adele, Eskimo Joe are at it again! Not since Black Fingernails, Red Wine have the ‘Mo Joes been this high on the TMN Hot 100. Although, let’s be honest, the difference in airplay separating Someone Like You in at #1 and Love Is A Drug at #2, is about the amount of airplay it took for Jet’s Seventeen to stick it out at #90 this week; an impressive feat itself, when you think about it.
Can Eskimo Joe muster the support over the coming weeks? Who knows? We like seeing indies and Australian acts at the top of the chart, so we’re honestly happy either way.
Talking of domestic acts, the two fastest movers for the week were domestic signings. Avalanche City’s Love, Love, Love jumped from #98 to #65, while Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know (featuring Kimbra) continues to gather steam, darting from #80 to #51.
Six new singles graced the chart this week. The highest debut came from Rihanna, with her Avril Lavigne-laced single, Cheers (Drink To That), which popped its head in at #36. Though it was the highest, it was one of three Top 40 debuts! Good Charlotte’s 1979 entered at #38, while Shannon Noll scored #40 with Switch Me On (which interestingly already has more regional/P3 support than all but one single above it).
Keeping in the spirit of the past six weeks, Adele's Someone Like You has held onto the #1 position on the ARIA Singles chart for a seventh. Below, Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera's Moves Like Jagger has kept up their fight for the crown, but alas, remain at #2.
TMN Hot 100 fast mover, Somebody That I Used To Know has bumped up from #5 to #3, earning Gold certification in the process for Gotye and Kimbra. On the iTunes chart, Somebody That I Used To Know has taken out #1, while Someone Like You is perched at #3. This coming week could see Gotye's first ever Top 50 ARIA single hit #1 in sales. Is it too early to call Triple J Hottest 100 winner?
Jessica Mauboy's Inescapable jumped from #20 to #10. This is her fourth Top 10 ARIA Single. Hopefully for Mauboy, it follows in the footsteps of Burn and hits the summit.
In the debuts department this week, we have Central Station's Alexandra Stan with Mr. Saxobeat at #32. The track has been receiving attention from radio for a while, but it seem that the tits 'n' ass filmclip has done its magic in getting the sales conversion. Just below at #35, Jack Vidgen's Yes I Am poked its head in. At #45 and #46, Demi Lovato's Skyscraper and Rihanna's Cheers (Drink To That) made their first appearances.
Yep, Adele is still #1 with 21. Meanwhile, 19 has returned from #4 to #3 (matching the highest position the album has reached). Things look good indeed. Just like the singles chart, #2 has held strong; Lady Gaga's Born This Way.
Interestingly though, we have another challenger about to enter the ring. Adele's 21 is still #1 on the iTunes chart, but Boy & Bear's Moonfire is sitting pretty at both #2 and #3 (one containing bonus tracks and costing a few pennies more). Could the combined sales of those editions (which should count as one album on the ARIA chart) sell enough in a week to outdo Adele?
Keeping in the theme of Australian domination, The Panics' Rain On The Humming Wire entered at #7. Not too shabby a debut, besting their previous best on the chart, Cruel Guards, which peaked at #18 (and received Gold Certification, a sign of things to come for this album).
