Didn't get enough One Direction news in last week's chart wrap? Here is an extra fix!
Ass Back Home is still #1 for the Gym Class Heroes despite not being #1 in any state or territory in Australia. It seems that #2 or #3 in most territories is enough to secure #1 overall, with New South Wales and Victoria not agreeing on whether they like Nicki Minaj’s Starships or Fun.’s We Are Young more. Up in Queensland they seem to like Ed Sheeran’s Lego House, which has been dragged up to #5 from #12 as a result.
Timomatic’s If Looks Could Kill was also dragged up substantially (#18 to #9) but it wasn’t quite enough to make him the artist behind the most heard domestic single in the country, because Matt Corby’s Brother is also up, to #8 from #10. Both of these wonderful acts might have to watch themselves with fellow Aussies, The Temper Trap charging upwards with Need Your Love (#29 to #17) and Delta Goodrem now on the chart - clocking in as the highest new addition this week at #69 with Sitting On Top Of The World.
Now, Delta has gone #1 second week four different times. The only other artist to go #1 second week, in the recorded history of the TMN Hot 100 Airplay Chart is Lady Gaga with Born This Way. While we don’t think that she will jump straight to #1, there is no denying that she is a force to be reckoned with and that we look forward to watching this track on the charts in the coming weeks.
While young Carly Rae Jepsen maintains her hold of the title of #1 ARIA Single, with her (this week) Double-Platinum single, Call Me Maybe and Nicki Minaj held onto #2 with Starships (also ticking over to Double-Platinum this week) the real focus this week is going to have to be on One Direction, who now have two singles in the Top 10. This makes them the second act of the year to have two singles in the Top 10 at the same time. The other was Flo Rida with Wild Ones and Good Feeling.
One Thing, the higher of the two singles for 1D, One Thing bolted from #18 to #6 last week and a further three places this week to #3. Meanwhile, slightly lower down the chart What Makes You Beautiful, an earlier single from the group, has also continued its upward movement from last week (#23 to #19) by dashing up to #10 this week towards its previous peak at #7 - as if it was some kind of undead creature.
Other significant movement on the chart this week was made by Far East Movement's Live My Life (featuring your boy Justin Bieber). The single is sitting at Gold and looking to match the Platinum (or higher) status of the group's hits from Free Wired. Meanwhile, Rihanna debuted at #25 with her latest; Where Have You Been.
If you ever needed evidence that an act coming to Australia to perform, or promote a record works, this might be the week. According to ARIA, One Direction's Up All Night, while remaining at #1, enjoyed a 17% increase in sales this week on last week. Not too shabby at all.
Well, it's a little bit shabby because 1D have managed to hold out Cold Chisel from a #1 debut with No Plans. The #2 debut matches All For You - the recent best of - which also saw a sales spike this week, moving up from #39 to #26.
Flo Rida, mentioned earlier as the first artist of 2012 to have two Top 10 singles at once, has also debuted on the Albums chart this week with his Good Feeling EP at #21, Labrinth's Electronic Earth entered at #38.
