Temper Trap to play Harbourlife

30 July 2010

In another sign that the division between bands and dance music is no more, The Temper Trap have been announced as headliners of the Harbourlife (former) dance party in November, according to a modest post on promoters Fuzzy's website.

Last year the event featured a 100% electronic line-up but now it looks set to follow the lead of its sister event Parklife and feature bands alongside of DJs too. In a surprise move, last year's Parklife event featured more 'rock' acts like Metric, Little Boots and Bertie Blackman.

In an interview with TMN last month, Fuzzy founder John Wall explained the shift was inspired by two factors - audience's increasingly diverse tastes and that licencing fees had increased more for dance parties over live music in the last few years.

He told TMN:"It’s not like when we first started promoting in the ‘90s where you picked your side – rock or dance – and you thought everyone on the other side was an idiot. People don’t think about music that way anymore. We’ve noticed our customers don’t make that distinction between a DJ or a live band."

Harbourlife takes place on Sydney's harbour foreshore on November 20 and in another revelation, it looks set to travel for the first time - to an as-yet-unamed Gold Coast venue on November 28.
