Lady Gaga violates YouTube copyright policy

15 July 2011

by Poppy Reid

Lady Gaga’s YouTube account has been suspended after claims she violated its copyright policy.

The singer’s videos have already clocked up over one billion views but as the infringement message on her LadyGagaofficial account suggests, this may not be the first time she’s breached the law.

The YouTube message states: “This account has been suspended due to multiple or severe violations of YouTube’s Copyright Policy.”

Time Out Tokyo alleges the suspension since July 12 comes after Gaga posted a video of her appearance on SMAP x SMAP, a Fuji television show. The footage posted was of her ten-minute mash-up performance of her Born This Way tracks and some “Japan-themed ad-libs,” with Japanese boy band SMAP.

Whilst here in Australia, Gaga tweeted the link to the video on Monday, posting: "My performance+cooking show appearance on SMAP SMAP is airing now in Japan. Kawaii Monsters! Tonight running around Sydney in my OXFORDs. X."

The claim comes from Media Interactive Inc, a company often called upon to cease Japanese audiovisual content streaming online.

For those fans who can’t go a day without their Gaga video fix, the pop queen’s Vevo account is still active.
