Southern Cross Austereo launch Radar as multi-platform station

11 January 2012

by Poppy Reid

Digital radio station Radar has announced it will extend its reach to national metro and regional audiences.

In a first for the Southern Cross Austereo offshoot, the multi-platform format will now be available on regional television, FM radio, online, digital radio, mobile and social media, from this Saturday (January 14).

Southern Cross Austereo’s Head of Metro Radio, Guy Dobson said the extension is a chance to seed their content across all mediums.

“Each slice of content will be tailor-made for the relevant medium that will subsequently offer the best available experience for the Radar brand lover,” said Dobson.

The launch will also see Radar enlist Ella Hooper (Killing Heidi, The Verses) as host; Hooper is currently an announcer on the Today Network’s Sunday slot, The Australian Top 20.

“Radar will allow so much scope for shining light on great new music from a blend of genres and I believe it will be an especially great thing for local Aussie music,” said Hooper.

Radar can now be heard on 44 national FM stations, (five metro and 39 regional) five nights a week on the Today Network. It will be broadcast on regional television every Saturday at midday on Southern Cross Ten in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria; on digital radio 24/7 in all metro markets and Canberra and online via radarmusic.com.au, via the Radar iPhone app and through social media platforms; Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Soundcloud, You Tube and google+.

Launched in 2008, Radar was brought on as Southern Cross Austereo’s third national network and Australia’s first commercial Digital station.
