    The life of Drapht started some fifteen years ago - with some pub merchandise, a blank wall and a can of spray paint.

    “I started doing graffiti when I was 13 or 14 and my dad, being a drummer and on the pub circuit, would pick up pub merchandise. One night he brought back a watch and I was looking for a name to write and I looked down at the watch and it said Swan Draught.” Need he say more?

    In a slow rise to prominence,Drapht (Paul Ridge) has nevertheless been making a hefty contribution to the Aussie hip hop scene for nearly a decade. While his first two albums (Pale Rider, 2003; and Who Am I, 2005) made a small bleep on the radar, it was the release of his 2008 album, Brothers Grimm that got the nation’s attention. One track in particular, Jimmy Recard, came in at #10 in Triple J’s Hottest 100.

    Ridge received a lot of airplay and attention from Jimmy Recard; with that attention, came both pressure and criticism.

    “During the making of the album [Life of Riley] I was constantly confronted by jealousy fuelled comments like, "How are you going to back that one up?" His response is R.I.P J.R, in which the real Jimmy is exposed for the “arrogant asshole that he is”, he laughs. “It’s a diss-song to myself but it’s probably one of the easiest songs that I’ve written because I’ve got more dirt on myself than anyone else has!”
