The charm in Conor Oberst's (aka Bright Eyes) songwriting is in its simplicity. He takes a very simple message and expresses it in such a delicate, trembling way it almost sounds as if he could burst into tears at any moment.  First Day of My Life is a very simple, acoustic love song accompanied by a very simple video clip, which almost transforms the song into something even grander. It watches people’s reactions as they listen to the song for the first time on headphones. You are given the opportunity to observe the emotional reaction it entices from some of the couples as they laugh, fight back tears and kiss their lovers or friends when particular lyrics cut through to them. All shot with an old 16mm film camera the song and clip are a perfect match.
