Max rewind to 1999 with Chit Chat
It’s rarely the case where extraordinary people work together and the sum of the parts makes a greater whole, but in the case of this little gem it’s spectacularly true. The Chemical Brothers in their prime on a track sung and co-written by Noel Gallagher, back when he made albums worth buying, and the video that elevated it into the stratosphere, made by the genius that is Michel Gondry. This clip is amazing even on a Michel Gondry level which speaks volumes. Imagine being The Chemical Brothers or Noel and seeing this clip for the first time? Seriously, can you imagine it? It would be kind of like having Audrey Hepburn as your first girlfriend. Nothing else would really be the same ever again. Of course Gondry claims the clip was inspired by The Benny Hill show which was shot indoors on video and outdoor on 16mm. Also they had this love of the video flare/delay as a futuristic effect. Only Gondry would think to emulate that effect in such a brain freezing way. It’s the Sistine Chapel of music videos because none of us could ever comprehend how many hours went into it, but we know it’s a lot... and it’s really great to look at stoned.
