Spotify Family offers shared accounts

Former Editor

Spotify’s basic principle has been given a shakeup with the announcement it will let you share your account with others.

The streaming service previously operated on a one-account-per-user code, where it wouldn’t let you use it on more than one device, however with its Spotify Family option, Premium or paid subscriber users can invite up to four family members and share one billing account. The option keeps each user’s listening history, recommendations and playlists separate. Each additional user gets 50% off Spotify Premium; the most expensive option means a family of five will pay $35.99 a month.

The Australian pricing options are more expensive than those offered in the US, but a few cents cheaper than those offered in New Zealand.

“This is one of the most asked for features from our audience,” said Ken Parks, Chief Content Officer at Spotify. “With today’s announcement we’re making it easier than ever for the whole family to experience Spotify Premium on their phones, at home and on the go.”

Spotify Family will roll out globally over the upcoming weeks.

Australia – Local Pricing (AUD)

Spotify Family 2 – $17.99

Spotify Family 3 – $23.99

Spotify Family 4 – $29.99

Spotify Family 5 – $35.99

New Zealand – Local Pricing (NZD)

Spotify Family 2 – $19.49

Spotify Family 3 – $25.99

Spotify Family 4 – $32.49

Spotify Family 5 – $38.99
