TMN launches first music industry charts course

The Music Network, in association with Sydney TAFE Music, has launched Australia’s first music industry charts course, designed specifically for industry professionals and music students: to learn how to interpret charts data, and to inform and monitor singles releases and marketing campaigns. Participants will learn how to use various radio, sales and digital charts to track the success of an artist, know the media landscape, and understand key tactics for successfully marketing a track to radio and digital services.

The course, Chart Tracker Pro consists of four weekly evening sessions at Sydney TAFE Music in Ultimo. The first night is free, which is Tuesday November 19th, 6:30-8:80pm.

The 4 week course costs $799 and includes an annual subscription to The Music Network (valued at $500+GST). So you’ll be able to do business using the charts, insider tip sheets and industry database for another year, implementing what you learn in the course.

Snapshot of the course:
During this hands-on course you will learn how professionals successfully launch a new single and track its progress in the market.  The course is designed by Matthew Cowley, General Manager of Entertainment Media Group, and Daniel Mulherin, Charts Manager of The Music Network: Australia’s only music industry business publication, tip sheet and chart service.  Students will pick a song that’s about to be released, and will be able to monitor the procedures in place and techniques available to push that song up the charts, using data-reporting to track its progress from zero to hero.

Who should take it:
Existing music industry professionals who want to upgrade their skills, students wanting to learn the art of charts analysis in music marketing, plus band members and aspiring music producers who want to release their own music or someone else’s.

When does it start?
The first night is free, November 19, 6:30-8:30pm.  Then it runs over three more Tuesdays, finishing Dec 3rd.

What does it cost?
The first night is free, so you can try before you buy.  Then it’s $799 (no GST), which includes a one-year subscription to The Music Network’s Chart Tracker, Tip Sheets and Black Book, normally costing $550 (after GST).  You might be able to deduct this on your tax return, too, so consult your accountant.
