Amrap chart wrap: Flangipanis and Tobias top community radio charts

The Amrap Metro and Amrap Regional Charts provide insight into what’s gaining airplay and attention on community radio. The charts show the top ten tracks ordered for airplay by community broadcasters through the Amrap’s AirIt music distribution service. This week sees Flangipanis hold onto the top spot in the Amrap Metro Chart, while Tobias takes out Regional Chart stakes.

Flangipanis have held onto #1 in the Amrap Metro Chart with Double Standards having picked up a spot in their hometown station 4ZZZ Brisbane’s Top 20 and having topped the station’s Hot 100 most played songs list for 2016. The self-described ’fake punk four-piece’ called into The Range on Radio Adelaide to discuss their previous visits to Adelaide, the story behind Double Standards and which member of the band would be eaten first if they were stranded on a desert island.

Tobias has climbed to #1 in the Amrap Regional Chart with When the Sun Comes up Again. The Sunshine Coast native recently called into 98.9 FM in Brisbane ahead of his appearance at the Woodford Folk Festival. During the interview he spoke about his Eumundi ’folky house’ upbringing and how undertaking indigenous studies and anthropology at university has helped his songwriting.

8 Ball Aitken has moved up to #2 in the Amrap Regional Chart in his fourth consecutive charting week with Shut the Front Door. Tania Kernaghan sails into the Amrap Regional Chart this week, taking #2 with That’s a Tradie. I Heart Hiroshima have held on tight to #3 in the Amrap Metro Chart with Glow. The Bushwackers are still going strong in the Amrap Regional Chart, taking #4 with Another Trip to Bunnings. Roger from the band recently dropped into the 2MCR studios for a chat. Pow! Negro are still going strong in the Amrap Metro Chart, taking #5 with Hidle Ho having picked up spots in FBi Radio Sydney’s new music list and RTRFM Perth’s Sound Selection. The popular six-piece dropped by the Breakfast show on their hometown station RTRFM after winning awards for Most Popular Live Act and Most Popular New Act at the West Australia Music Awards. The group had fun performing the charting single live and chatting with Caitlin about why they have their own brand of hot sauce to coincide with its release.

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard show no signs of slowing down, taking #6 in their fifth Amrap Metro Charting week with Rattlesnake, the first single off their new record Flying Microtonal Banana. The microtonal single is featured in 4ZZZ Brisbane’s Top 20 new music list. Velociraptor remain in the Amrap Metro Chart, leap frogging to #7 in their second charting week with Hunk with a Hunch having picked up a spot in their hometown station 4ZZZ Brisbane’s new music list. Katie de Veau makes her entrance into the Amrap Regional Chart, taking #7 with Brand new Day. De Veau stopped by her home town station of 1WAY FM Canberra to share her excitement around the release of her album Brand New Day and how she pulled the album together with musicians in both Australia and Nashville.

Sun Sap enjoy #8 in the Amrap Metro Chart in their second charting week with Hanging Hearts. The NSW South Coast six-piece picked up a spot in FBi Radio Sydney’s new music list, along with additional airplay across the country at stations including Fleurieu FM in SA, Valley FM and 4EB in QLD, Gove FM in NT, Heritage FM and Voice of the Avon in WA, 2SEA, Yass FM and Vox FM in NSW, as well as Voice FM, 3OCR, Inner FM, Hot FM and Mountain District Radio in VIC.

Jazz Party take #8 in the Amrap Regional Chart with Mountain Goat. The eight-piece powerhouse recently dropped by PBS FM’s The Breakfast Spread to chat about their upcoming shows and have picked up airplay all over at stations including 4NAG in QLD, King Island Community Radio in TAS, Valley FM in ACT, Tribe FM and 5GTR in SA, Yarra Valley FM and 3WBC in VIC, Nambucca Valley Radio, TLC FM and 2BOB in NSW, 3WAY FM, North West FM, 94.7 The Pulse and Voice FM in VIC, as well as 2MIA, Coonamble Community Radio, STA FM, Radio Northern Beaches and WOW FM in NSW.

Alex the Astronaut has held onto a spot in the Amrap Metro Chart, taking #9 with Already Home having picked up a spot in FBi Radio Sydney’s new music list.
