Baboom officially launches, inks deal with APRA AMCOS

What was originally Kim Dotcom’s hyped music streaming service Baboom, has now officially launched with a partnership in Australiawith APRA AMCOS.

The streaming service launched with a focus on being an ‘artist direct-to-fan platform’, boasting technological advances and an array of financial tools, with the goal of being used to promote a more personalised relationship between the artists providing the work and the consumers.

With so many streaming companies on the market already as well as new competitor Apple Music launching earlier in the year, Baboom has a lot of work to do in order to prove itself. In order to help set it apart from other competitors, it offers an array of benefits to both artist and fans, the most glaring one being that artists keep90% of the revenue raised by their music, whilst also giving them the option to buy the music if they are paying for the Pro artist services.

“We wanted the fans’ subscription to go directly to the artists they stream," saidMarco Oliveira,CTO of Baboom."The artists are the reason why fans subscribe in the first place. And because some people still enjoy buying music, BABOOM combines Fair Trade Streaming with a music store, enabling fans to build a lossless unlimited music collection.”

As well as the large cut, they receive a portion of the subscription money from any of their followers that are paying for a Premium account and can pay all rights holders form within the app itself.

Coinciding with the launch today, Baboom also announced a trial agreement with APRA and AMCOS, Australia’s collection society for performance and mechanical rights in order to better smooth the process of rights money going to the right people.

“We are excited that APRA AMCOS shared our vision and worked with Baboom to find a solution that protected their rights holders whilst aligning with Baboom’s new approach,” added Mike Tucker,Head of Content for Baboom.

You can trial Baboom now at baboom.com with a free plan or Premium for AU$10a month.
