PlayStation Music passes 5 billion streams

Sony Music’s PlayStation Music celebrated its first year of collaborating with Spotify by notching up 5 billion streams. The partnership had notched up an impressive 785 million tracks streamed on PlayStation 4 in the first three months.

The most streamed song globally was Major Lazer’s Lean On (ft. MØ and DJ Snake) while Drake’s Jumpman took the honours in the United States.

In Australia, as well as the rest of the world, the most popular day to listen to Spotify on PS4, PS3 and Xperia devices is Saturday. But Friday between 8 to 9 pm is the most popular hour for listening while gaming.

In the meantime, background music to Xbox One is coming up. But it is not sure if it will be through Spotify, as Sony has indicated it’s looking for other partners.

Word from last week’s Game Developers Conference in San Francisco is that Sony is working on a PlayStation 4.5, with increased graphical power and games running at 4K resolution (four times more powerful than the current one and allow it to be more competitive with PCs), supported by the upcoming PlayStation VR headphones. PS4 owners will soon be told if they can upgrade or have to buy a new device to handle the power boost.
