Sony Music acquires Ministry of Sound

Sony Music Entertainment in the UK has acquired foremost dance music label Ministry of Sound Recordings. The deal includes its artists as London Grammar, Example, DJ Fresh and Wretch 32; back catalogue; and a highly successful compilations business which has sold 55 million compilations around the world of brands as The Annual, Dance Nation, Trance Nation and Clubbers’ Guide.

The effect of the acquisition on the Australian business will see Ministry of Sound Australia continue to release compilations through until June 2017, when it will operate under a still-to-be-announced title.

Ministry of Sound Recordings was launched in 1993 as an extension of James Palumbo (now Lord Palumbo) as an extensive of his house music nightclub of that name which began in 1991.

The label has sold over 70 million, set up operations around the world including Australia, and in the UK notched up 40 #1 albums and 21 #1 singles.
